New Post
Wow. I've been a terrible blogger. The ironic thing is that I currently have work in two different galleries as part of "The Blogger Show." 2 pieces are at the Agni Gallery in NYC , and 2 pieces are at Digging Pitt, in Pittsburgh. So, I guess I'm not really much of a blogger. Or at least I haven't been recently. As the name of the shows suggest, they consist of work by artists that blog. A majority of the blogs I've visited by the participating artists, really WRITE. I don't really write all that much at all. My blog was really only started in order to have an online space to show my work. I guess blogs can take many different forms and purposes. I have to admit that I have felt rather low on the art blogging ladder, as I haven't updated very often, and I only write about myself. But, that's what this blog remains.... It's about my work. So, I wanted to post a new image, though it's not a new painting. It's actually a piece that's in the Blogger Show at Agni Gallery. I've got some cool new paintings in the works, and hopefully, they'll be finished within the next month. I'll be happy to finally post some new work then. A lot has been going on recently, and it's been a bit of a struggle to back back into production mode.... but things are finally clicking again. More to come...

Accretion
I learned a new word today, thanks to Elizabeth Perry who commented on the 'Katamari' series. That word is, 'accretion'. It may be only a new word to me, as many are, but it's nice to have a new word that describes something that one does so often. According to Wikipedia, accretion is , "a process in which the size of something gradually increases by steady addition of smaller parts." That certainly could describe most of my paintings, but especially "Painthing." I posted the painting earlier, but could not stop working on it. I still really love the original state of the painting that I will now call "Panthing I". The new one is "Painthing II".
I'm renaming this version because I still think that the previous version was good enough to be complete as it was. So, it's just a lost painting that exists in photo form. Obviously, the new version has a significantly greater amount of accretion. I guess it could be said that I ruined the previous painting. Actually, I destroyed it. But I like the new one too, though it has a very different feel. The feeling of mass is much more intense.

Group Show
I am pleased to announce that I will be part of a group show at the Gallery on the Green, in Pawling, New York. Some of the work has been posted here before, but I have continued working on them, and they are finally resolved. This will be the first time that "Night Attack in Emerald Valley" has been shown. Those of you in the area should make the trip to support this new, great gallery and the other artists. The show runs from 11/25/06 to 1/7/07. Here are some updated images of the work in the show...

Katamari!
"Katamari Landscape" was previously posted, but I continued to work on it and wanted to re-post it, along with some drawings that preceded it. I got the idea from a bizarre video game called "Katamari Damacy". "Katamari" is a japanese word meaning "clod" or "clump", and "damacy" loosely means "spirit" or "soul". The painting was made by continuously rotating the painting 90 degrees in order to compress the gravity of landscape towards the center. The result is a ball of my landscape elements. Katamari!
